The Truth was Different Photographs
The photos below are of the real people who will appear in the book, but some were enhanced by members of
the talented Facebook group, Photoshop Request NL.
The famous singer and actor Henri Hartog Wallig and Aleida Christina Bennink, Rita’s parents. Both were from Amsterdam diamond families.
Willeke (maternal cousin through Aleida’s brother Julius), Rita, Hans (Rita’s older brother), and Sophia or Fiep (Aleida’s firstborn with her deceased husband Jacob Kwast and Rita’s half-sister). Jacob was the son of the famous conductor Jan Albert Kwast.
Zusters Deenik and Dermout, the nurses at het kindertehuis in Driebergen, where Rita’s sons Frits and Jan lived for almost a decade.
Rita Evenblij is on the right. Frits, her eldest son, is next to her. Esther Wallig (Dicky), her sister-in-law, and two of Esther and Hans’s children (Meriam and Edith) are on the left.
Rita’s author photograph. Her pen name was Marianne Benninck.
Baby Marie Johanna Wallig (Rita) and her mother Aleida in 1909. At this time, the family lived in the Jewish diamond quarter of Amsterdam.

Meta Bisschop, Rita’s daughter-in-law, is in the front. From the left at the back are Cor Bisschop, Rita, Corrie, Guusje, and Jacobus Ouwerkerk. Cor and Guusje are Meta’s parents, and Corrie is her sister. Meta is married to Frits Evenblij, Rita’s eldest son. Jacobus is Rita’s second husband.
Hans Wallig, Rita’s brother, who was crazy generous, but very frustrating to her!
