Facebook and My Website

Over the past several months, I’ve been trying to figure out why the image is not displayed when I post a link on Facebook. Usually, I just get a question mark and a gray box. I called Bluehost, and they said it was my SEO’s fault. So, I turned the SEO off. No improvement. Bluehost then suggested I clear my cache. I did. No improvement. So I called Elegant Themes by Divi. They’ve been working on figuring it out. Now they say that Bluehost has a strong cache. I contacted them again. Not the problem.

Another Problem

As part of all this fun, I also looked into the website and saw that the service I paid to back up all my sites hasn’t operated for six months. I tried to save it onto my computer, but one website is so huge that it couldn’t be done. I checked it. Apparently, every website I’ve had in the past two decades is stored there. What?? I deleted them, and Rambling Ruminations is still functional!

Progress

So, have I made any progress? Well, I put all my websites into the one and will phase out the others. I also started using Yoast SEO. After all, the SEO made no difference to Facebook. I put the social media image into every page of the website. It shows on Linkedin, so the problem clearly lies with Facebook. I contacted them. No answer. Oh, well. Facebook isn’t very useful for marketing anyway.

Maybe I’ll just get back to writing books.

Problem Solved!

In looking through old blog posts, I realized that this problem has been solved! It took MONTHS, but it is done. The issue was with how the Mac labels screenshots. When I re-saved and used a simple label, then uploaded, most of my previews show. If only it hadn’t taken so long for me to figure it out! Authors learn the hard way. At least, this one does.
