Caroline Crocker, PhD
Brief Bio
Dr. Caroline Crocker is a multi-genre writer, focusing on truth written like fiction, and a blogger addressing science, faith, teaching, and other rambling ruminations. It’ll be Okay–or Will It?
It can be tempting to tell people that, before coming to Christ your life was a mess, but now it’s wonderful. Most of us know how that plays out in real life. But is it even Biblical? Join Caroline in exploring what Scripture promises–and what it doesn’t. Perhaps, when we’re feeling less guilt, we’ll be better placed to deal with the issues!
God’s Extravagant Love
Most of us have experienced pain at the hands of others. Invite Caroline to help you explore how and whether forgiveness is possible and beneficial. Caroline will base the discussion on Unforgivable. Little Frits grows up in the occupied Netherlands. Bombing is his lullaby, and friends and family are murdered in Auschwitz. Frits experiences illness, terror, sadness, and rage. Should Frits hold onto anger or forgive and start afresh? Could you?
Everyone Has a Story
Do any of your friends and acquaintances exhibit behaviors that are strange in your eyes? Invite Caroline to help your group explore the topic of “weird people.” Caroline will base the discussion on what she learned while writing Brave Face, the story of her mother, Meta, growing up in the occupied Netherlands. Wartime fear, starvation, and anxiety result in a lifetime of PTSD. How can we, in encountering those whose stories we don’t know, extend grace, giving them the benefit of the doubt?
The Beauty of Cells
Except through a microscope, most of us have never seen a cell. But they are absolutely incredible! Invite Caroline to your gathering and she will take you on a tour of the tiny, but amazing, world of cells. See how these fundamental units of life eat and excrete, recycle and hoard, and even build and use miniature railways! Find out why Caroline thinks biology is amazing.
Panic and the Pasture
Some of us panic easily. Others need more to go wrong before they lose it. But few of us have never experienced excess anxiety. Join Caroline in a study of the very familiar Psalm 23–from a shepherd’s point of view. How can being a member of Jesus’ flock help us to stay cool?
The Encyclopedia in You
How does your body know that your liver should do liver things and your brain should think? Why does skin stop growing over the wound once it is healed? Invite Caroline to explain, in layman’s terms, how the encyclopedias of information each one of your cells is read and applied. You’ll go away feeling extremely smart–all over your body!
Alternative Medicine and the Christian
Everyone wants to be healthy. But to what lengths ought a Christian to go in pursuit of this goal? Caroline, who is a trained scientist, a long-term believer, a former NGO founder exposing science scams, and a clergy wife, will speak about the origin and scientific basis of various types of alternative medicine. What you do with the information is up to you!
