Between the Pages: Book Talks
You’ve read one of my books. You’re looking for a great read for your book club. You’d like an author talk at your next event. Or you want someone to read a great story to your classroom.
Look no further! I’m always willing to speak on the inspiration behind one of my books.
Dr. Caroline Crocker’s storytelling captivates children and adults alike, weaving together humor, heart, and wisdom in a way that leaves a lasting impact.
Caroline Crocker speaks with a groundedness and a truth that comes from thorough research. Her mother shared her experiences with her and even co-wrote the book. Caroline initiated the study of her parents’ lives growing up and has written them in a truly entertaining and educational way.
Extravagant Love
Most of us have experienced pain at the hands of others. Invite Caroline to help you explore how and whether forgiveness is possible and beneficial. Caroline will base the discussion on Unforgivable. Little Frits grew up in the occupied Netherlands. Bombing was his lullaby, and friends and family were murdered in Auschwitz. Frits experienced illness, terror, sadness, and rage. Should Frits hold onto anger or forgive and start afresh? Could you?

Can a half-German lady find love with a part-Jewish boy in the aftermath of WWII? Find out in the rivetting talk.
Everyone Has a Story
Do any of your friends and acquaintances exhibit behaviors that are strange in your eyes? Invite Caroline to help your group explore the topic of “weird people.” Caroline will base the discussion on what she learned while writing Brave Face, the story of her mother, Meta, growing up in the occupied Netherlands. Wartime fear, starvation, and anxiety result in a lifetime of PTSD. How can we, in encountering those whose stories we don’t know, extend grace, giving them the benefit of the doubt?

Immigration is a way of life for this family. Mamma’s father moved from Poland to Germany. Mamma moved from Germany to the Netherlands. Then WWII began, and the Netherlands became an occupied country. How did that affect her family? Her daughter emigrated to Canada. Why? And what can the experience of all these immigrants teach us?

War hurts. Always. In my mother’s case, she experienced starvation, extreme fear, and witnessed atrocities that left her with permanent PTSD. How did she become a functional person? What can we learn from her experience?
The Splendiferous Everyday Series
This delightful series of books is ideal for teachers wanting to introduce children to gentle stories like the Ramona series. Dr. Crocker is also willing to come and interact with the classroom, if that should be of interest.
