What people are saying

These people love reading about Ireentje’s adventures in the ‘My Everyday’ series of children’s chapter books! What are the books like? Think “slice of life.” Like Ramona, Ivy and Bean, or even Little House.

Mom 1

I just had to let you know how much Clara (8) loved the book. She’s been a little down on reading lately, and definitely doesn’t really love it just yet. And it’s been hard to get her to read some of the book club books. I’ve never ever seen her get excited about a book…that is, until she read this book!

She loved reading about Ireentje’s adventures. She even snuck the book in her bed last night and stayed up super late to finish it and was practically jumping for joy telling me about it! She absolutely loved it, like lights up talking about it. It makes me so happy to see her this way and I’m hoping maybe it’ll help her to realize there are other books out there that will appeal to her too.

Mom 2

All my kids loved it. They were even asking for more. Even my 11 year old son was interested.

Mom 3

What an incredible book (My Exciting Everyday Escapades)! I love the second chapter. The third brought tears to my eyes. The fourth is hilarious! I’m sure my children will enjoy the stories very much.

Dad

My 6-year-old seemed to really enjoy the book. He sat through it without fidgeting or moving away, which is highly unusual. He was so interested and engaged!

In these books, Caroline Crocker challenges the reader to step back into history and gives insight into a journey that many couples faced a decade after WW2. By capturing the reader’s imagination, Ireentje allows the reader to share experiences, emotions, and a sense of self-worth. This book will give young readers the chance to understand one family’s story and thus gain insight into stories belonging to many other families. The reader will experience, with the author, an underlying confidence and resilience that says ‘never give up’.

Teacher 2

Ireentje is full of surprises! She is precocious, independent and, at times, shy. Her antics kept me reading and rooting for her page after page.

Professor

I don’t know how these could be better. I LOVED THEM! As I read, I laughed out loud. I teared up. I was sad as I learned how Ireentje had screwed up. I can hear Ireentje talking. I am there with her. I hope for more stories about Ireentje!!!!

My Marvelous Everyday Moments beautifully captures the magic of childhood through the eyes of eight-year-old Ireentje, whose small-town Canadian adventures transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. From crunchy snow and playful discoveries to secret footprints in fresh concrete, each moment is a celebration of wonder. Whether feeding chipmunks at Lake of Bays, watching bears at the dump, or navigating the joys and challenges of friendship, Ireentje’s journey is a nostalgic embrace of family, change, and the boundless spirit of imagination.

From the Author

Two years after my first grandchild was born, I began hearing requests to “tell me a story.” Now, with eight grandchildren, the demands have become almost continuous. Stories about my childhood and the adventures of Ireentje are their favorites, closely followed by tales of the exploits of my dog!

When I read the first draft of “Ireentje” to one family of grandchildren, they built a fort, had me join them inside, gave me a pad of paper and a pen, and told me to write the next book while they listened, of course. The other family’s children didn’t build a fort, but the response was similar. I was told, “Keep reading. I want to hear every word!” Greater commendation I could not dream of.

What Children Think

I loved reading about Ireentje’s adventures and all the funniness.

This is the history of a girl and her family. It is very interesting. I love the funny parts. I didn’t want to stop reading it because there are more and more adventures. It’s a good book! Sequels? I can’t wait to read them!

–Amelia Farrand, 11 years old

My Grammy is funny. She wrote these books mostly for her grandchildren, so she tells lots of stuff that I thought she wouldn’t say in public! The books are funny, exciting, and brave. And sometimes naughty.
